Review by Dominic Patten for Deadline:
When Vice Sports launched online in June 2014, it played a different game than a lot of the shock-value content in which its mothership brand traffics. With the debut tomorrow of Vice World Of Sports on Viceland, that canny sensibility could make it the breakout show for the burgeoning but often blasé cable channel.
As I say in my video review above, VWOS is a contender and worth getting a ticket for. Hosted and executive produced by TV and sports journalism veteran Selema Masekela, the nine-episode (and one special) first season travels in search of the heart and soul of sport from Ghana to Serbia to a Michigan hockey town, explores gambling, and looks at the endurance of basketball on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Always much harder to make than they look, sports documentaries and sports investigations score when they take the viewer beyond the stats and even the athletes and into the context that creates the competitor and the game – and that’s what VWOShas nicely done.
Now, you don’t actually have to wait until 11 PM ET on April 27 to see the first episode of Vice World Of Sports; Viceland, partially owned by A+E Networks, put it up online last week. Check that out, then click on my video review and tell us what you think.

The World Premiere for our latest film, I Am Thalente is this Thursday, April 7th at the Downtown Independent. Congrats to Director, Nathalie Johns, on a long journey to get here. Her story along with the film's subject, Thalente, is nothing short of incredible. Complete list of screenings can be found HERE.
I AM THALENTE chronicles the journey of a homeless skateboarder from South Africa whose talent takes him from the harsh street-life of Durban at age 9, to Los Angeles where he deals with the challenges that empower him to surmount his limitations and become a young man ready to face the world head on. It is life-affirming story for homeless and underprivileged youths the world over, and speaks to the fact the sports and an inherent goodness in people can change lives.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
For nearly a year and a half, VICE Sports has chronicled unique stories from around the world that illustrate the relationship between sport and society. We are excited and proud to announce a new television show that will continue that adventurous style of storytelling. Please welcome the VICE World of Sports, which will premiere on VICELAND on April 27 at 11 PM ET, and will air each Wednesday in that same time slot.
VWOS will tell compelling stories that explore broad cultures, politics, places and people through the one thing connects them all: sport. Our Executive Producer and host Selema Masekela has traveled to places such as Ghana, Cuba, and Kenya, among many others, to bring you stories you won't see anywhere else, and that will be told through VICE's unique point of view.
Consider this the television version of the website that you already love. Enjoy.

UX Entertainment Group in collaboration with Red Bull TV is proud to announce our forthcoming release, Hard Lovin' Woman premiering at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. We’re very excited to be working with Red Bull Media House again! Please join us on Friday, April 15th in NYC for both the film’s world premier, as well as a concert with Juliette Lewis and her band at Spring Studios, 9 PM, tickets available TODAY! Watch the trailer HERE.
Directed by award winning actor and director, Michael Rapaport, and Executive Produced by Jason Bergh and Sal Masekela, Hard Lovin’ Woman is a heavy-hitting rock documentary that explores the sacrifices acclaimed actress, Juliette Lewis, makes to pursue her first love, music. Although Lewis is less known for her musicianship than her acting, she is an unsung force on stage and in the studio, literally leaving blood, sweat and tears on the floor. Totally committed to her craft, Juliette gave up acting for several years, in order to follow her “rock and roll” heart, self-funding several records and countless worldwide tours. But in the process, along with her band The Licks, Juliette drew closer to her own artistry, while fulfilling an inner drive to perform and connect with her global fan base. Combining home videos and photos from Lewis’ personal archive, candid moments with Juliette on-the-go, in-depth interviews, and impassioned live performances, this documentary illuminates personal and professional dimensions to Lewis previously unseen. As she bucks industry politics and critics, self doubt, and physical injury, Lewis leads us on a deeply personal journey through her own authentic, independent, and raw sonic world.
